In Galician language, the names "quiroga, queiroga, queiroa, queiruga, carrroucha or uceira" include various species 
of heather present in Galicia, except the white heather (Erica  arborea), which receives the names of "uz, urce, carroucha, 
urrigata or carpaza ". Heather is a shrub of the Ericaceae family, which includes both the genus species of Erica and Calluna .
In Galicia are very common the moorlands composed of heather, gorse and broom.  In spring, these shrubs lend the landscape
with stunning and wonderful combinations of yellow, white and every shade of pink, fuchsia and violet.
Quiroga is a name that share the place of Quiroga, the parish to which it belongs,  the municipality of Quiroga, and
also the Quiroga Shire, all of them in Lugo (NW-Spain). Quiroga Shire includes, in addition of the municipality with
same name, the municipalities of Folgoso do Courel and Ribas do Sil. In  this region of impressive natural wealth
and breathtaking landscapes, excellent wines are produced under the Denomination of Origin Ribeira Sacra.
